The happy and the sad

For me, sewing is usually centered around a joyous occasion. A baby or a celebration of some kind. But sometimes it’s sad.

One of my good friends was blessed to get pregnant with twins on her first time with IVF. This friend and I share a birthday, and lo and behold that was also her babies’ due date!

Before we even knew there were twins, I had sent her this quilt for the baby.

Sadly, this week she lost both babies at 20 weeks. There began to be complications two weeks ago, and she and her husband were open in their struggles and asking friends to pray for them. She shared their names are Lola and Jude.

My friend loves fall. Relishes it. So in my heart I hope to always think of them as forever fall babies. I decided to make an embroidery for her.

This is still a work in progress. I will of course iron and frame it, but I also want to add some orange and yellow fallen leaves at the bottom.

So often when tragedy happens, we feel like we need to DO something. This is how I am channeling my grief and love for them. I hope it is meaningful for them in the future.

I will share again when it is finished.

  1. I’m so sorry for your friends, but that is such a sweet thing to do. I know people who have lost children and I never know what to do in those situations. I’m sure they will be very grateful for your gift.
